Career Description

Responsible for preparing and completing federal, state and local tax returns for EZCORP, Inc. and Subsidiaries.  Responsible for meeting all tax filing deadlines with accuracy and completeness to minimize tax obligations. 

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

 1.     Preparation of all federal, state and local tax returns

2.      Preparation of domestic tax provision computations

3.      Assist with all sales & use tax and state income tax audits

4.      Support field compliance with tax regulations

5.      Perform research related to federal, state and local tax issues

CRITICAL AND ESSENTIAL TASK

1.      Preparation and filing of federal and state tax returns

2.      Coordinate sales and use tax reporting with outside consultants

3.      Preparation of and filing of all estimated tax payments

4.      Post tax related Journal Entries as part of the close process

5.      Preparation of domestic tax provision computations

6.      Reconciliation of sales and use tax accounts and federal tax      receivable/payable accounts

7.      Maintenance of tax calendar and due dates

8.      Prepare Canadian GST/HST returns

9.      Manage sales and use tax licenses including new store applications and renewals

10.   Maintain sales and use tax rates and report changes to operations

11.   Research tax statutes and effectively communicate findings

12.   Gather information for the preparation of foreign income tax returns by external accounting firms

13.   Complete special projects as needed

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Tax from a four year college or university. CPA or CPA candidate preferred; Master’s degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance preferred.
  • One to three years related experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with tax laws and reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in GAAP related tax issues, such as ASC 740 accounting, FIN 48 uncertain tax positions, and stock compensation deductibility.
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills; attention to detail and accuracy in work; and time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of enterprise software (PeopleSoft) and various software packages such as ProSystem Tax/Corptax (or equivalent) and Microsoft Office with proficiency in EXCEL.

A key component of this position is implementing tax savings ideas.  This position will need to have keen analytical skills that will allow him/her to look at alternatives and identify discrepancies and irregularities, and determine the best solution to correcting the situation, as well as looking for creative solutions.

In order to be effective in this position, the incumbent must be able to find creative and innovative ways to better handle day-to-day and special situations by carefully planning for possible eventualities.  The successful Tax Senior will set goals, timetables and meet deadlines as a normal part of their everyday business.
