Career Description

The staff accountant will be responsible for assisting with the monthly accounting related to our Pawn operations, with specific focus on Customer Layaway Deposits, Pre-paid business licenses, Shrinkage, over/short cash research and subledger tie outs for Pawn loans outstanding and Layaways. This role will provide financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data and preparing reports.

Critical and Essential Tasks

  • Actively participates in month end close processes including journal entries, reconciliations and assessment of proper accounting in accordance with GAAP
  • Assists in maintaining the balance sheet account reconciliation software used by the Company
  • Documents financial transactions by entering account information
  • Substantiates financial transactions by auditing documents
  • Secures financial information by completing data base backups
  • Monthly, quarterly and yearly-end close processes and procedures
  • Contributes to the design, test and implementation of new processes
  • Interprets and analyzes commonly used financial reports including company financial statements, variance reports, etc.
  • Provides SEC filing support as needed
  • Assists in ad hoc projects focusing on automation and optimization
  • Complies with all company policies and departmental procedures, ensuring honest and ethical conduct at all times

Career Requirements


  • 1-4 years of accounting, preferably in a public accounting or pawn environment Experience with PeopleSoft; Hyperion, and process optimization a plus
  • CPA Preferred
  • Spanish speaking ability preferred, not required


Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a four-year college or university

Job-Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of accounting practices and processes
  • Skilled in accounting and reporting
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills; attention to detail and accuracy in work; and time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of various accounting software packages such as Microsoft Office with proficiency in EXCEL
  • Ability to leverage others within the organization to diligently gather facts
