Career Description

We are seeking an exceptionally talented leader in Credit Risk Management who will provide effective collaboration, facilitation and leadership to support the development of EZCORP’s FinTech Start-up Digital Lending Business in Canada and ultimately the expansion of the Online proposition to other markets. Establishing this new Digital Lending Business requires building business and technical partnerships with global Fintech players.


The Sr. Director, Credit Risk Management is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of credit risk strategies, policies, models, processes, and procedures used in the origination and collection processes of unsecured consumer loans. Reporting to the Vice President, Head of Digital Lending (based in Toronto Canada) and a dotted line to the Credit Risk Officer (Position currently vacant) the Director, Credit Risk Management will have the following key areas of responsibility:

  • Management of the credit risk of the Digital Canadian Consumer Loans Portfolio.
  • Design strategies for customer engagement, customer retention, loan origination and loan collections.
  • Monitoring the performance of the digital loan portfolio and the credit risk models and strategies.
  • Collaborate on the development and implementation of mathematical and statistical models and reports that support the lending processes and loan portfolio management.

  • Build and maintain relationships with industry experts to incorporate innovative technologies, applications and approaches into future capabilities.
  • Assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency and radiating information.
  • Participate proactively in developing and maintaining team standards, tools and best practice.
  • Design Credit Decision Models for different types of consumer loan products, channels and segments based on statistical methods and best practices.
  • Design Collection Strategies by applying credit risk models.
  • Design customer engagement or retention campaigns based on credit risk models.
  • Define credit risk limits, policies, processes and procedures.
  • Ensure that the appropriate industry, legal, business and financial standards and strategies are applied in all the statistical models, policies, and procedures that are part of the Credit Risk Framework of Consumer Loans.
  • Review and approve the credit risk models created by the Credit Risk Analyst.
  • Design and produce all the reports and dashboards used for analyzing the performance of the consumer loan portfolio, the loan campaigns, the collections’ strategies, and the mathematical and statistical models.
  • Work closely with Operations, Product, Finance, legal, and Compliance teams to develop and implement changes on the credit risk models, policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Oversight the technical implementation of models, policies, procedures and reports.
  • Create and maintain the Credit Risk Governance Model and lead Governance Committee meetings.
  • Ensure that all the components of the credit risk framework are well documented (Models, policies, processes, procedures, manuals, etc.).
  • Responsible for solving issues related to the application of the credit risk models, policies, standards, processes and procedures.
  • Supervise the work of the Credit Risk Analyst(s) responsible for data mining and credit risk models design.
  • Work closely with Compliance team on the definition and implementation of rules, processes, and procedures for fraud detection during the loan lifecycle.
  • Work closely with the Finance team on the definition and application of risk-based pricing models and models for the estimation of reserves.

Career Requirements

Skills and Experience:

  • 7+ years direct work experience in credit risk management, underwriting and analytics.
  • Must have experience in a managerial role in Credit Risk of consumer loans.
  • Proven track record of success in credit risk modelling and analytics for consumer loans portfolios.
  • Experienced in developing, implementing, and maintaining credit risk standard, policies, and procedures for loan origination and collections.
  • Great knowledge of regulation and best practices applicable to credit risk of consumer loans.
  • Must have exceptional communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work with diverse personality types.
  • Must be a team-player with the ability to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Knowledge or experience in fraud risk is an asset.

Technical Skills

  • Expert on mathematical and statistical modelling in a lending environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of different statistical tools, data programming languages, and data mining tools (SLQ, Python, SAS, R, SPSS, etc.).
  • Ability to implement credit decision models in credit decision engines.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft’s suite products.
  • Expert on developing and implementing credit risk framework components (models, policies, reports, procedures, etc.) for personal loan products.

Professional Skills:

  • Have analytical skills that will allow you to look at alternatives and pick the best solution for each situation.
  • Find creative and innovative ways to better handle day-to-day and special situations by carefully planning for possible eventualities.
  • Sound understanding and proven track record of credit and collections policies, strategies, risk models, credit analysis and reporting.
  • Thorough understanding of Consumer and Business Banking origination, account management, and collection systems and polices.
  • Excellent knowledge of bank products and credit risk concepts.
  • A proven understanding of all aspects of the financial lifecycle of a business and the requirement to blend strategic imperatives with operational effectiveness.



  • Quantitative educational background: Math, Physics, Statistics, or other quantitative area.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
  • Relevant Masters or Advanced Post Graduate qualifications highly desirable.
